Sochi was selected by the International Olympic Committee as a host city of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the year of 2014. This decision was announced on the fourth of July. When you visit Russia, Sochi is the place for exciting Russia vacations.
Sochi is regarded as a gateway to the future development of winter sports in Russia. Sochi managed to be shosen competing with Australian Salzburg and Korean Pyeongchang (more facts about Russia).
The government of Russian Federation and the Russian Olympic Committee support Sochi for organizing the Olympics. The construction of the Olympic infrastructure is directed by the Federal target Programme (FTP). A lot of money is spend in the region for developing and modernization of the telecommunication system in the region. It is expected that digital broadcasting infrastructure with TV and radio broadcasting stations would be built.
Transportation system is also going to be developed to connect the Olympic Park with the other parts of the region. A special railway is going to be built, which is known as Sochi Light Metro, between Adler and Krasnaya Polyana. Russian railway is also going to establish a high-speed railway connection between Moscow and Adler.
Fifteen new modern sport venues will be built there, as well as modern and big hotels for about eleven thousand guests. A new island will be built in the sea having the shape of Russian Federation. Many new hotels will be built on this newly constructed Island.
The work on the mascot and logo have already begun, but the final decision will be announced in 2011. Many new changes are going to be made in the city, so those tourists coming to the city for the second time may not recognize it.
